Event Details

In March 2017, Low Carbon Oxford is bringing She is Sustainable (SiS) to Oxfordshire, and hosting a two-day workshop and networking event for local women working in sustainability.

The agenda can be downloaded here.

Kick-started by Becky Willis, Solitaire Townsend and others in London in 2016, there have been a number of She is Sustainable events around the country – and feeling inspired, we’ve decided it’s something which would benefit our community too.

Why SiS?

Every woman makes decisions about her career, her ambitions and her family.

This two-day gathering for women working in sustainability in Oxfordshire will create a space for women to share their stories and take part in discussion sessions on all aspects of work and life.

You can find out more about SiS events to-date here at

Who is SiS for?

SiS is for women and anyone who identifies as a woman working (in a paid or voluntary capacity) in sustainability in Oxfordshire.

What’s the plan?

Our plan is for the event to run from midday on Thursday 16th March, with a buffet dinner that evening, regrouping Friday morning and reaching its conclusion early afternoon on the Friday.

In terms of numbers, we are looking at around 25-30 participants, with speakers and organisers bringing the total to 35-40 overall – so a select group.

In terms of format, you can expect a tasty combination of open space, panel discussions and some incredible women from our community sharing their 10-minute ‘life story’.  Prepare to be inspired.

Confimed speakers include: Dr Anne Miller, Oxford University; Nicky Chambers, Anthesis; Zoe Broughton, video activist and film maker; Annie Davy, The Nature Effect; Emily Boyd, University of Reading; Catherine Bottrill, Pilio.

Who is organising SiS Oxfordshire?

The SiS Oxfordshire team are: Low Carbon Oxford’s Mairi Brookes and Jenny Carr, and Mim Saxl, formerly of agile-ox.

How do I sign up?

As space is limited, there is an online application process, requiring some information on your involvement (formal or informal) in sustainability to date, and hopes for the future.

We will then select participants in order to balance representation from different sectors and walks of life.

The online application process is now closed.
