About the organisation:  Oxford City Council (OCC) is the democratically elected local government body for Oxford. It employs over 1,200 people who are helping achieve the Council’s goal of building a world class city for everyone.

Employees/Membership:   1,200 employees and 48 elected members (ie Councillors)

Low carbon credentials:   By 2011, OCC had reduced its carbon emissions by 25% against a 2005/6 baseline and now continues to implement a range of measures to reduce its emissions by 5% year on year. OCC has been described by the Carbon Trust as an ‘exemplar’ in carbon management and was awarded ‘Most Sustainable Local Authority’ in the Public Sector Sustainability Awards in 2014. OCC leads the Low Carbon Oxford network.

Role within Low Carbon Oxford:   Oxford City Council set up the LCO network in 2011 and leads the partnership – including providing programme management, communications and events. Oxford City Council also leads on delivering the annual Low Carbon Oxford Week festival which attracted over 40,000 visitors in 2015.
